Oriane Girard is a PhD candidate in Visual Anthropology at the French School of Athens and the Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology (IDEAS, CNRS) of Aix-Marseille University. Her research into the photographic archives of Albanian and French institutions focuses on the ethnographic gaze on Albania during the communist dictatorship (1944-1991). She is particularly interested in the visual expression of female subjectivities in Albanian society during the socialist period.
